Best Activities to Try Out in Half Moon Bay During Winter

Half Moon Bay boasts incredible sights and tourist attractions especially during Spring and Summer but you might be wondering where would be the best places to visit in Half Moon Bay during the Winter? Here is a list of what and where that is recommended for you to visit:

Mavericks is well-renowned as a tourist destination for surfers because of its monstrous tidal waves. It is also a host to the “Titans of Mavericks”. It is an invitational surfing competition that brings together 24 international big-wave surfers to Half Moon Bay from November through March. To be part of this incredible event (if you are not a surfer but crave a front row seat), ride the “Queen of Hearts”, a 50-foot sportfishing vessel that’s taking passengers out to surf waters and enjoy the waves at a safe distance.

If you are interested in learning how to surf and joining in on the Mavericks experience in the future, then you can head on over to “Sea, Surf and Fun”! The school is located at a calm, safe spot off Princeton Jetty, not far from the famous Mavericks. Classes are offered all year around, and besides regular surfing classes you can opt for girls sessions, which combine yoga and surf, team building, or summer surf camps. You can learn the amazing sport here and experience the waves and the waters like never before.

One of the best family activities in Half Moon Bay during the winter is the gray whale watching where thousands of California grey and humpback whales undertake their annual migration south from the feeding grounds of Alaska to the breeding grounds of Baja. Aside from whales, you get to encounter several other marine animals like sea lions, seals, porpoises and also seabirds.

Another fun family activity during the winter season is a visit to “Lemos Farm”. There are several fun things to do especially for the kids like Pony Rides, Train Rides, Bounce Houses, and a Petting Zoo. Lemos Farm also hosts Pony Parties, Kids Birthday Parties, Company Picnics and School Field Trips. Lemos Farm has fun activities for all seasons of the year. During the winter, the Farm transforms into a Holiday Wonderland where visitors can find and cut the perfect Christmas Tree.

Are you feeling food-adventurous? Half Moon Bay is host to several incredible food destinations that are definitely worth the visit that will warm your hearts and stomachs during the winter season.

If you are in the mood for an Italian food escape, then Via Uno is a perfect choice for you and your family. One of their popular dishes is the classic cioppino – they make it with Dungeness crab, Manila clams, tiger prawns, Mediterranean mussels, wild Alaskan salmon, and Monterey calamari, all in a spicy tomato sauce. Aside from the hearty dishes that they serve, they also have great wine selection that will match the food.

Located just a short walk from the Mavericks, Half Moon Bay Brewing is considered one of the best coastal breweries in the States. It is very popular for its spacious tap room and restaurant. It has become a great place for people to hang out as this also boasts several events with fun local bands on weekends. Their outdoor terrace with a fire pit that is overlooking the sea is spectacular view for everyone.

Half Moon Bay Distillery is a small craft distillery, located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and is popular for producing ultra-premium, hand-crafted, highest-quality spirits in small batches.
